I first wrote about the modular clinic in September 2020 – I titled it “We have gone modular!”. That was just when we received the empty container house. By October, I wrote another piece on how far we have gone with setting up the container house and actually setting up the modular clinic – operations and organization. Now, we have yet another update, the modular clinic has been launched officially!.
On December 10th 2020, the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the modular clinic was held. The clinic was christened the Julia Burke Maternity Center, after our major sponsor on the project. The centre is situated at Asata Mine Road, Coal Camp, Enugu State. It was a joyous event both for our team and the host community.
The keynote address for the event was delivered by the Enugu State Commissioner of Health who was represented by the Reproductive Health Coordinator, Dr Christopher Okafor. Our Program manager for the modular clinic project, Ms Paschaline Chukwuka, gave a hearty welcome and opening address. The Commissioner cut the ribbon, inspected the facility and declared it open for use.
We used the occasion of this event to do a few other things – two seminars on Cervical Cancer Screening and Family Planning; free cervical cancer screening and family planning sessions; free Albendazole, Vitamine A and Multivitamins administration for women and children. Mrs Charity Ibe, (RN/RM and CEO, Redeemers Hospital and Maternity, Abakpa), was our chief resource person on the matters of cervical cancer and family planning. Our team is grateful for her large-heartedness and professional excellence. We also acknowledge the Daniel Iroegbu Foundation, which provided us with free Albendazole, Vitamin A and Multivitamins. We say a very big thank you.
So, our first modular clinic, alias Julia Burke Maternity Center is alive and active, a dream come true We are eternally grateful to our donors, your partnership with us has made this feat a reality. We look forward to more of your support this year 2021 as we plan to achieve so much more together.
Happy New Year!
